Step In Right Direction Against White Collar Predators

there are so many scam creditors, people who have simply STOLEN consumers information. I’ve been receiving calls for SIX-YEARS from fake debt collectors who simply have my name number and partial info, and threaten me by demanding I go out and get a PREPAID debt card to pay them over the phone for a debt that doesn’t even exist. and when I laugh off that threat, I’m then threatened with court action, and for something that’s UNLAWFUL in my state: payday loanslmfao. www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710. I wish I could upload their voicemails which are sent to my evoice.com account, but they contain personal info stolen. the persons sound ULTRA ghetto but claim to be litigators, managers, etc., but turns out they’re outlaw scammers representing a payday loan company already taken down by the Attorney General’s office. their threats are basically the equivalent of a drug dealer calling and threatening to sue over non-payment for cocaine. yea, good luck with that!

there are now law firms buying up debts (or claiming they’ve bought debts with no one verifying it) and suing consumers across the nation: https://nylag.org/news/2013/06/class-action-targets-massive-debt-collection-scheme. the vultures (fraudulent debt collectors targeting AT&T iPhone consumers) are now being preyed upon.

Statement From A.G. Schneiderman On The Passage Of The Consumer Credit Fairness Act

29 May 2014

NEW YORK – Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued the following statement in response to the passage of the Consumer Credit Fairness Act in the New York State Assembly:

“I applaud the Assembly for passing the Consumer Credit Fairness Act, which will ensure due process protections for consumers when debt collectors attempt to collect on debt by using the judicial process. If it becomes law, this legislation will provide important notice to consumers that a suit has been filed against them, and require collectors to prove that the debt is legally owed to them based on statutes of limitations and other requirements. Similar to Chief Judge Lippman’s proposed reforms to the legal process for consumer credit cases, it will promote an overall fairer system for thousands of New Yorkers.

“Thanks to Assembly member Helene Weinstein for her leadership and sponsorship of this legislation. I urge the Senate to take up this measure and help put an end to the abuse of consumers by debt collectors in our state.”
